The last week or so has required much patience and careful attentiveness. With each meal intentionally consumed, my tummy would bubble over with wild tenacity. It was as if someone had hooked a hose up to my stomach and began pumping carbonation inside.
Everything I ate including whole foods would send my stomach into a gassy uproar. Clearly something was off. Whenever this happens it is always a good time to push my plate away all together. If I couldn’t identify the culprit through the process of elimination then I could be sure that taking some time to realign my spirit and mind would be tremendously beneficial.
What I was experiencing was dis-ease in my body. And all dis-ease begins in the gut. It is all about what you consume that will either contribute to wellbeing or agitate what has been passed down genetically.
On a microscopic level our bodies are home to millions and trillions of tiny bacteria friends and foes. We need bacteria to survive and thrive but when we start creating a better environment for our foes instead of our friends, that’s when things can get ugly quick.
Science tells us that fasting is a great way to jump start your health but the Bible has been telling us this far longer than science has.
“That is why the Lord says, “Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning.”
Joel 2:12 NLT
We know that Jesus was and is a healer. He healed the blind man, the woman with the issue of blood, raised Lazarus from the dead, and that is only to name the most popular accounts. Jesus’ time on earth was spent restoring snd healing people. Everyone who believed that he could heal them received healing.
No fancy diet or doctor intervention needed and frankly I knew better to pass off bloating and excessive gas as something minor to be ignored or adopted as a normal part of my internal makeup. I contemplated doing a deep dive back into my gut health literature and incorporating a GAPS diet for a few weeks but something inside me knew exactly what I needed to do.
“Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom. Instead, fear the Lord and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.”
Proverbs 3:7-8 NLT
So hear I am today. Returning to scriptures in my spare time instead of snacking on avocado oil fried chips and scrolling social media. As I carefully read line upon line and precept upon precept I could feel my stomach loosen up. I had no idea it was contracted. I sipped my dandelion tea and allowed myself to enjoy the reading. No omega3s, no protein, no leafy greens. Just tea and time in the word of God.
Complete and total peace. And somehow, it seems if I sit still enough, I can feel each slow rhythmic breath move through my whole body. Ease. Total ease.
”Be still and know that I am God” Psalm 46:10
